Conference on Freedom of Religion and Belief and Sexuality in Geneva. KMU representative was the only youth advocate attending  the conference specializing in this field of activism. As a panelist, KMU representative spoke on “Freedom of Religion, Conscience and Expression: Empowering Youth and Religious Leaders Through The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)”. From the perspective of a youth advocate, KMU Country Director spoke about the intersections between freedom of expression, sexuality, and freedom of religion and belief. The speaker shared that there is a lack of engagement between youth, religious leaders, civil society and government authorities in Malaysia. Highlighting the importance of youth awareness of UN instruments and the Sustainable Development Goals, the speaker shared best practices in empowering youth to, include building the capacity of youth to optimize their use of social media so that they are able to freely express their thoughts and ideas. Finally, the speaker urged for the meaningful and effective participation of youth in developing policies, particularly those that directly affect their lived realities.
